OTC Men 4th, Women 6th at True Team

The Ottertail Central Bulldog track teams faced their first of what will be a string of championship meets on Tuesday when they competed at True Team in Pelican Rapids.

 

Out of the 15 team field the OTC men took home a fourth place finish with 730 points. Frazee took third with 749, Osakis ended up in second with 790.5 and Wadena Deer Creek captured the team title with a score of 830.5.

 

On the women’s side Pelican Rapids won the meet with 787.5 points, Barnesville was runner up with 790.5, Osakis ended up in third with 749. The Bulldog women finished in sixth with 627.5 points.

 

The two Bulldog teams combined for five event titles. Nick VanErp captured two of the titles in the 100 dash in a time of 11.54, and the long jump with a leap of 20-08. The men's 4x800 of Thomas Himmelspach, Brady Scholten, Drew Durbin, and Brennan Amundson beat out Frazee in the final homestretch for the win.

 

The women’s 4x200 and 4x400 dominated in route to their titles. The 4x200 consisted of Erika Heibel, Brooke Hovland, Kylie Fredrick, and Grace VanErp that ran 1:51.41. The 4x400 was made up of Hovland, Jorga Gabrielson, Fredrick and VanErp and ran a 4:16.21.

 

The distance events had a good showing with Gabrielson taking fifth in the 1600, 5:42.02, and second in the 800 with a personal best of 2:26.55. Reese Richards ran a personal best with a 12:48 in the 3200. In the men’s 1600 Eli Carlson ended in third and continued the personal best trend with a time of 4:45.77 and Brady Scholten ran a 2:08.13 in the 800 to finish third.

 

Ally Hart showed once again she is one of the best in the area when it comes to the hurdle events as she finished third in the 100’s with a 17.90 and second in the 300’s with a personal best of 51.06.


Other top 6 six finishes include the women’s 4x800 of Richards, Liz Lukken, Lanely Frost, and Allyson Goodman. Nick VanErp took second in the 200 with a time of 23.41. Luke Bjorklund and VanErp took second and third in the triple jump going 39-11 and 39-10.5 respectively. Hunter Doll took fourth in the discus with a throw of 109-06.

 

“Overall I’m pleased with the performances of both teams today.” said first year co-head coach Brady Speicher. “We are walking away with valuable championship meet experience as we head towards conference and subsections in the coming weeks.”
