The Breckenridge Cowboys suffered a tough 3-1 non-conference loss to Hawley on Tuesday.

“It was a very well-played game,” said Breckenridge Head Coach Kevin Hiedeman.  “Neither team made an error tonight. It’s rare that you will watch a high school game where there are no errors made in the field. Unfortunately, the Cowboys hot bats went cold tonight only picking up 5 hits and more importantly only walked once while striking out 7 times. You have to give credit to Hawley - they threw strikes and played great defense.”

The Cowboys jumped on the board early on a base hit by Hunter Feigum who scored on a sacrifice fly by Braden Wahl. Connor Twidwell started on the mound pitching the first three innings striking out 4 and walking one batter, holding Hawley scoreless. Jake Wendorff pitched the next 2 2/3 innings walking 3 batters and hitting a batter and giving up 3 runs. The score was 1-0 heading in to the top of the 6th. “It’s hard to win a baseball game only scoring one run, you have to be perfect,” reported Hiedeman. “That inning we put two Hawley runners on base and had an 0-2 count with 2 outs and gave up a game changing single that was enough to win the game for Hawley.”

Cooper Yaggie pitched the last 1 1/3 striking out one and giving up 3 hits.  The Cowboys were led offensively by Braden Wahl who went 2-2 and had the Cowboys only RBI.

Things will not get any easier for the Cowboys as they travel to DGF on Thursday to play another strong conference opponent.
