The M State Fergus Falls Lady Spartan softball team continued their winning ways with a Tuesday home sweep of the Ridgewater College Warriors. The Lady Spartans had dropped a double header to the Warriors a couple weeks back. The double header sweep was significant in that it pushes the Lady Spartans to a tie for third place with Ridgewater in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) Southern Division standings. The top four teams in the division will advance to the Region XIII tournament.

The Lady Spartans grabbed a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning of game one and never looked back as they did a nice job of adding on each inning. Hannah Ekse provided the firepower with six runs batted in. Anna Carlson knocked in three runs and pitcher Alexa Mortenson helped her own cause with three RBI. The bottom three in the lineup, Ashlee Rimpila, McKenna Erickson, and Paige Schultz did a great job of getting on base and scoring runs. Schultz scored three in the game and Rimpila and Erickson each scoring a run. Mortenson and Allison Stafki each scored four runs in the game.

Mortenson pitched the complete game for the 15-6 win.

Game two started slowly for the Lady Spartans as Ridgewater ambushed the Lady Spartans and scored five runs in the first inning and added another in the top of the second to take a 6-0 lead. The Lady Spartans added a run in the bottom of the second to make it 6-1. Mortenson had the ball for game two and really settled down after the first inning and did a great job of getting the team back in and swinging. They scored three in the bottom of the third to make the score 6-4. Ridgewater added a run to make it 7-4 before the Lady Spartans stormed back and took the lead for good with a four run bottom of the fifth, highlighted by an Erickson two out, two run single, to make it 8-7 Lady Spartans.

Once again they did a nice job of adding to the lead with a two run bottom of the sixth for a 10-7 lead. Mortenson shut the door on the Warriors in the top of the seventh to notch her second win of the day.

Stafki, Mortenson, and Ekse each scored three runs. Mortenson and Ekse each had a double and triple in the game. Carlson had three more runs batted in and Erickson had two RBI.

The Lady Spartans are right back at tomorrow with a home double header with Anoka Ramsey. Game times are 3:00 and 5:00.
