The Brandon-Evansville softball team won a pair of games on Friday, beating Minnewaska Area 7-6 and Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley 3-1.

Kristen Kokett (7IP, 11H, 6ER, 5BB, 3K) was the winning pitcher against Minnewaska Area.  After falling behind 3-1, B-E scored three times in the third and added three runs in the sixth to take a 7-3 lead, however, the Lakers rallied in the seventh, scoring three runs of their own before being retired.

“Defensively, we made some big plays to get us out of bases loaded situations in the second, third and sixth innings,” reported Head Coach Kasi Sieling of the Chargers.  “It was great to see our outfielders stepping up and really going and getting the ball.  Kristen battled through rainy conditions in the first few innings and threw a solid game for us.  Offensively, we hit the ball hard and were aggressive on the bases to move girls around.”

Kokett (3-4, 2R), Bailey Schaefer (2-2, 2R, 2RBI), Mikenna Pattrin (1-3, RBI, R), Alena Shores (1-4, R), Haddey Zastrow (1-4), Maddie Otto (1-3, 2B, 2RBI), Korrie Randt (1-3) and Sydney Schaefer (1-3, 2B, R) all contributed at the plate.

In their Pheasant Conference win over C-G-B, Mikenna Pattrin (7IP, 4H, 1ER, 2BB, 5K) earned the win in the circle.  Offensive leaders were Kokett (1-4), Bailey Schaefer (2-4, 2R), Pattrin (1-3, 3B), Shores (1-3, RBI), Otto (2-3) and Randt (1-3).

Lora Botker (7IP, 8H, 3R, 1ER, 2BB, 3K) pitched will for the Wolverines, but was saddled with the loss.

“It was a pitcher’s duel throughout this game with both pitchers throwing great ball games,” said Coach Sieling.  “Our defense made some huge plays in this game to take away CGB chances.  Bailey got things going early in the first inning with a single and was brought in by a single from Alena Shores.  In the sixth inning, Kaylee Bitzan reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second base and eventually came in to score on a wild pitch to put us in the lead.  In the top of the seventh, Bailey singled on a line drive, Mikenna laid down a great bunt, bringing Bailey all the way over to third and she scored on a throwing error to third base.  This was a big conference win for us and it was a lot of fun to see the girls put together two all-around, well-played games.”
