In the opener, Barnesville put the game away quickly with 6 runs in the 2nd inning and 4 more in the 3rd.  7 more in the 5th added to the lopsided final score of 17-0.  The Vikings were held to 4 hits, one each from Hayden Christenson, Damien Britton, Liam Sytsma and Carson McNeill.  Reggie Funk started the game on the mound and was relieved by Logan Fahje in the 3rd.  Zack Partlow did the catching.  Barnesville collected 16 hits on the day and also benefited from 7 walks and 2 hit batters. 

The second game started out better as Pelican scored 2 in the top of the 1st when Hayden Christenson led off with a single, stole 2nd and scored when Reggie Funk’s ground ball was misplayed.  Funk moved up on Damien Britton’s fly ball and scored on Weston Funk’s ground out.  The Trojans came back with 2 of their own in the bottom of the inning and 3 more in the 2nd.  The Vikings got within one at 5-4 in the top of the 4th.  Brock Sjolie led off with a double and scored on Liam, Sytsma’s single.  A walk to Logan Fahje and an error on Patrick Pechtel’s grounder loaded the bases with one out.  After a force out at the plate, Fahje scored when Reggie Funk reached on a passed ball on his strikeout.  That was it for Pelican as Barnesville scored 4 in the bottom of the inning, 3 in the 5th and 2 in the 6th to end the game on the 10 run rule 14-4.  Christenson started on the mound for the Vikings and was relieved by Carson McNeill.  Reggie Funk did the catching.  Britton got the other Pelican hit. 

“It was a bad day all around for the local team,” said Pelican Rapids Assistant Coach Steve Babb.  “The Trojans hit the ball very well but 5 Viking errors contributed to the onslaught as well.  It was one of those days where things started out bad and just got worse.  This team is capable of playing a lot better than this and we are confident that they will.”
