VanErp’s Capture Titles to Lead Bulldogs at Pelican

The Ottertail Central track teams were back out on the track when they competed at the Hank Emmel invite in Pelican Rapids with 12 other schools on May 2.

The Bulldog men finished with 58 points for fifth place as a team, Perham took second with 68 points, and DGF ran away from the field with 127.5 points.

 

Leading the way for the men and continuing his successful senior season was Nick VanErp. Nick won the long jump, with a season best of 20-11.50, took 3rd in the 200M dash with a 23.87, and was part of the 4x400 relay of Thomas Himmelspach, Brennan Amundson, and Brady Scholten that took fifth.

 

Luke Bjorklund showed his hops by clearing 5’7 in the high jump which was a runner up finish, and by placing third in the triple jump with a performance of 38-04. Bjorklund was also apart of the sixth place 4x100 relay that consisted of Brady VanErp, Krosby Aasness, and Jaxson Rich.

 

Amundson, Scholten, Himmelspach and Drew Durbin placed second in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 8:47. Amundson later in the meet took third in the 400 with a season best of 52.77. Himmelspach battled for fifth place in the mile with a 5:03.60. While Scholten took fourth in the 800 with a 2:11.17.

 

Other top six finishes included Connor Drake coming in fourth for the 110 hurdles with a 16.91 and Nick Carter-Fischer in sixth for the 200M dash in 24.97.

 

On the women's side,the Bulldogs ended up with 57 points for a sixth place finish. Oakes took 2nd with 77 and Pelican Rapids took the team title with 83 points.

 

The women had one event winner in Grace VanErp who leaped 33-03.5 in the triple jump.

VanErp was also apart of the 4x200 with Ericka Heibel, Brooke Hovland, and Kylie Frederick that took fourth with a 1:52.96.

 

Hovland ran an impressive race to take third in the 400M dash with a time of 1:03.43 and was apart of the 4x400 relay with VanErp, Frederick and Jorga Gabrielson that took third.

 

Gabrielson also completed and scored team points in the 800 taking third with a 2:29.93 and fifth in the mile with a 5:43.21, both of those season best times.

 

The hurdle events continue to be a dominate event the lady Bulldogs as Mia Young and Ally Hart took second and third in the 100 hurdles going 17.64 and 17.75 respectively. Hart doubled back in the 300 hurdles with Amelia Balskowski where Balskowski took fifth with a 53.49 and Hart took sixth with a 53.52.

 

Other scoring performances include Moraes Bugbee in the 3200M run taking fifth with a 13:50.03 and the 4x800 relay of Reese Richards, Liz Lukken, Lanley Frost and Ally Goodman taking 4th with an 11:19.12.

 

The Bulldogs will be back at Pelican on Tuesday, May 7th, for the Section 6A True Team meet.
