The Perham baseball team recorded a double header sweep over the Breckenridge Cowboys on Thursday, winning 17-2 and 7-2.

Perham jumped out early in game one, scoring 5 runs in the first inning and it didn’t stop there. The Yellowjackets combined for a total of 11 hits on the day but the Cowboy defense, which has been struggling all year, helped with 6 errors along with 5 base on balls and 3 hit batters. Connor Twidwell pitched the first 1 1/3 innings giving up 8 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks. Luke Arnhalt pitched an inning, walking 3 batters and hitting 3 more batters and giving up 3 runs. Hayden Schuler finished out the 5 inning game pitching 2 2/3 giving up 6 runs on 5 hit and 2 walks.

Leaders for Perham were Dawson Stevens (3-4, 5RBI, R), Josh Jeziorski (3RBI), Max Tostenson (1-1, HR, 2RBI, R), Carter Mulcahy (1-3, RBI, 4R, 2B) and Maddux Kovash (1-2, RBI, 4R).  Stevens earned the win, going four innings, allowing three hits, walking two and striking out four.  Finn Diggins pitched a scoreless fifth inning.

In game two, Kovash (7IP, 4H, 2R, 0ER, 8K, BB) was in command for the Yellowjackets on the mound.  Mulcahy had a double and two runs batted in for Perham. Stevens also knocked in a run with a double.  Other RBI hits came from Michael Benke, Steve Lindberg and Noah Rooney. Carter Haugen pitched 5 innings giving up 4 hits, walking 4 and striking out 2 batters, taking the loss. Haugen gave up 7 runs but only 3 were earned as the Cowboy defense continued to struggle making another 4 errors. Three of the errors were in the second inning allowing Perham to score 3 runs in the inning. Cooper Yaggie pitched the final inning walking one and striking out one.

The Cowboys were only able to muster 9 hits over both games. Hunter Feigum, Braden Wahl and Jeremy Stack each had two hits on the day. Emmit Vig, Carson Hought and Jack Aigner each picked up one hit.

“Our defense has struggled all year and we’ve been able to overcome it with some pretty strong offensive performances,” said Breckenridge Head Coach Kevin Hiedeman. “But, against great teams like Perham, we can’t give them that many outs and expect to have a positive outcome. I thought Carter Haugen pitched well enough to win game two but we just didn’t support him in the field. The Cowboys will have to regroup for their home game against Hawley next Tuesday at 5:00pm.”
