Hillcrest Boys Win at Balmoral

State qualifier John Vall claimed medalist honors at Balmoral on Thursday, leading the Hillcrest boys golf team to a victory in a Quad County Conference meet.  Vall fired a 74, six strokes ahead of runner-up Trevor Swonger of Underwood who came in with an 80.  Hillcrest won the team title with a score of 353, seven strokes in front of Ortonville (360).

Underwood came in third with a score of 363, followed by Ottertail Central (373), Rothsay (404), LPGE/Browerville (416), Border West (434), Pillager (439), West Central Area (450) and Ashby (458).

Noah Chase of OTC was third individually with a round of 82, followed by Canaan Kugler (83) of Underwood, Carter Dilly (85) of OTC and Drew Young (86) of OTC.

Other Hillcrest scores included an 87 from Mike Vall, a 95 from Ben Christensen, a 97 from Logan Disabella, a 101 from Joel Quam and a 117 from Nick Foss.

Underwood scores included a 99 from Logan Frigaard, a 101 from Bryce Jorgenson and a 105 from Braden Thorson.

"Trevor Swonger and Canaan Kugler have been pretty consistent so far this year and our 3 through 6 players are getting better each day," said Underwood Head Coach Chuck Ross.  "It will be fun to see how they do down the stretch in May."

Nathan Hillman rounded out the team scoring for OTC with a 123.

For West Central Area, Tate Christenson led with a 98, Declan Johnson shot a 109, Jacob Warde turned in a 114 and Trenton Getzlaff had a 129.

Ethan Curtis fired a 94 to lead Rothsay and Braden Moen came in with a 98.  Tervin Erickson (105), Chris Carrillo (107), Carson Wiers (109) and Sam Danielson (114) completed the scoring for the Tigers.

Jacob Cook led Ashby with a 110, followed by Bradley Anderson (113), Ethan Johnsrud (117), Ben Ludwig (118) and Brandon Anderson (131).
