The Rocori Spartans paid a visit to Fergus Falls for a Central Lakes Conference baseball contest on Thursday and the visitors pushed across 16 runs on 14 hits on the way to an impressive 16-6 win over the Otters.

“It was a tough night for the Otters in awfully windy conditions,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Kevin Pearson.

The game was close for two innings as both teams plated four runs in the first inning. Rocori took a 7-5 lead into the 3rd inning and exploded for 9 runs in the top of the third. They were able to maintain a 10 run lead through the 5th inning to end the game by the 10 run rule.

Cole Knudson continued to hit the ball well as he collected two hits on the night. Michael Maanum also had two hits and led the Otters with two RBI.  Michael Wiederich, Cole Fronning and Nic Pearson each knocked in a run and collected one hit apiece.

“Three Otter pitchers battled the elements and the Rocori hitters,” reported Pearson. “Each pitcher threw better than their stats show as many balls were misplayed in the wind.  Just awful conditions to play in tonight. Wind is the worst weather condition because it affects every aspect of the game. Our pitchers battled but it came down to us not throwing enough strikes. We were behind in too many counts throughout the game, and their hitters took advantage as they belted out 14 hits.”

The next game for the Otters is at home on Monday against Sauk Rapids-Rice. Game time is set for 5:00pm.
