Rain Postpones Otter Post Season Activities

By Craig Olson 05/21/2024, 10:30am CDT

Rain has postponed scheduled post season activities for Fergus Falls softball and tennis teams.  The Otter softball team was scheduled to open tournament play against Little Falls on Tuesday, but that game has been moved to a 3:00pm start on Thursday at Rocori High School in Cold Spring.  The winner of that game will then face top-seeded Rocori.

The individual singles and doubles competition at the Section 8A Tennis Tournament has been postponed until Wednesday in Osakis.  The Otters have singles players Jackson Lysne and Leo Schierer competing, along with doubles teams Trey Smith/Lance Johnson, and Jose Rodriguez/Clayton Peppel.

On Thursday, 1983 Fergus Falls High School graduate Joe Cranston, in his 25th season as the head women’s hockey coach at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, was named the NCAA Division III Women’s Hockey Coach of the Year.  On Sunday afternoon, Cranston’s Falcons defeated Elmira College 4-1 at Hunt Arena in River Falls to win the 2024 NCAA Division III Women’s Ice Hockey National Championship.  The national title is the first in UWRF’s history during its 25th anniversary season, finishing with a  31-0 overall record, the most single season wins in NCAA Division III Women’s Ice Hockey history and the fourth ever undefeated season.
