The high school baseball playoffs begin on Tuesday, May 31. Here are the first round pairings for the Section 6A and Section 8AA tournaments. The first round is an elimination round with the winners advancing to the double elimination tournament which begins on Thursday, June 2.
Weather has caused some first round changes with the Ashby vs Breckenridge game in 6A being moved to a 7:30pm start in Evansville, and the Fergus Falls vs Ottertail Central game in 8AA being postponed to Wednesday at 5:00pm at American Legion Field at DeLagoon Park in Fergus Falls.
With a perfect 12-0 Pheasant Conference record, leading to a conference championship, it’s only fitting that Ashby Head Baseball Coach Jared Larson and senior Jaden Norby of the Arrows were selected as Coach of the Year and Most Valuable Player in the Pheasant Conference. Hancock senior Preston Rohloff received Pitcher of the Year honors and senior Nate Moberg of Border West was named Offensive Player of the Year.
The Ashby baseball team started the post season with a 12-0 win over the Hillcrest Comets. Evan Paulson (3IP, 8K, 0BB, 1H, 0R) was the winning pitcher. Hunter Norby and Carter Spangler entered the game out of the bullpen and helped close out the game in relief.
The Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Comets got their 1st win of the season 11-10 against St John’s Prep in extra innings. Evan Lindgren hit a walk off double to win the game in the bottom of the 8th inning for a much needed Comet win!
