Pelican Rapids made 14-of-17 free throws and held a 35-21 edge on the boards Saturday against Hawley. The Vikings led 25-21 at the half and outscored the Nuggets 25-18 over the final 18 minutes, earning a 50-39 victory.
The Pelican Rapids girls’ basketball team honored their seven seniors at their home game against Frazee on Thursday night. Chloe Paulson, Mia Stewart, Vanassa Booth, Rachel Guler, Anna Stephenson, Allie Haiby and Greta Tollefson were recognized on Senior Night. The Vikings won the game 61-30.
The Pelican Rapids girls’ basketball team hosted Heart O’ Lakes Conference rival Breckenridge on Friday night in a battle of two of the top teams in the conference and in Section 8AA. The Vikings jumped out to a 23-8 lead, but the Cowgirls responded with a 10-0 run to pull to within five points at 23-18 and trailed 25-20 at the half. After the Viking scored the first three points of the second half, Breckenridge rattled off nine straight to take a 29-28 lead. There were six lead changes and three times in the second half, but Pelican Rapids was able to record a 43-41 win.
