Vikings Girls Improve to 25-1 with First Round Playoff Win over Rothsay

The Pelican Rapids Vikings improved their record to 25-1 on Thursday night with an 87-49 victory over the Rothsay Tigers in the first round of the Section 6A girls’ basketball playoffs.  The Vikings held a 60-25 lead at the half and placed five players in double digits in the game.

Sarah Thompson led them with 18, Greta Tollefson had 17, Adriana Torres finished with 16, Kaylie Isaman added 13 and Anna Stephenson chipped in with a dozen.

 

Rothsay was led by Kenadi Carlsrud (21 points, 4 rebounds, 5 steals) and Jayna Gronewold (12 points, 4 rebounds.  Jenna Fabre added 8 points and 4 boards.

 

“Pelican is a great team with so many weapons,” noted Rothsay Head coach Anita Heier.  “We played hard for the whole game.  We had some young players step up and play well.  We were so happy with our senior leadership and they will all be missed.”

 

Pelican Rapids, the top seeded team in the North half of Section 6A, will play fourth-seeded Henning, a 74-54 winner over Lake Park-Audubon on Thursday night, at Concordia College in Moorhead at 11:00am Saturday in the 6A quarterfinals.
