Battle Lake dropped a home contest to New York Mills on Tuesday, falling to the Eagles 71-65 in overtime.

“We really struggled in the first half and trailed by 13 at the break,” reported Battle Lake Head Coach CJ Peeters.  “We turned the ball over 20 times and fouled a ton. It just was not our night, but we did show some toughness and battled back in the second half.”

The Battlers forced overtime when Nick VanErp hit a banked in three with 2.5 seconds left in regulation time, tying the game at 58-58.  New York Mills increased their lead to nine points in the extra period, cashing in on a costly turnover and making their free throws as Tate Olson hit 8-of-12 from the foul line.  The Eagles outscored the Battlers 13-7 in OT.

New York Mills senior Jonas Baune finished with 17 points, reaching 1000 points in his career.  Brady Bauck led the Eagles with 24 points.  Darwin Gaudette had 11 and Tate Olson scored 10.

Riley Leabo led the Battlers with 20 points.  Brennan Amundson and Nick VanErp both had 14 points.

Battle Lake (9-14) will play their final regular season at home against Bertha-Hewitt on Friday night.
