Spartan Men End Season with Loss at Rochester

The M State Mens’ basketball team finished their season with a makeup game in Rochester on Tuesday night.  The Spartans ended the year 13-14 overall and 6-8 against MCAC Southern Division opponents, losing to the Yellowjackets by the score of 71-59.

M State struggled with their shooting, making 34.5% (20-58) of their field goal attempts and hitting just 23.7% (9-38) of their three’s.  They were 10-for-10 on the free throw line. Leaders for the Spartans were Martin Lafond (14 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals), Austin Miller (13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists), TJ Martin (11 points, 5 rebounds) and Kyler Newman (10 points, 2 assists.


Rochester made 40% (22-55) of their shots from the floor and 53% (8-15) of their treys.  They were 19-of-26 (73%) on the foul line. Kong Kong (16 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 blocks), Naa’il Mahdi (13 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals), Ben Opsahl (13 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists) and Karmoga Lero (12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists) were all in double figures for Rochester.  Tanner Jonas finished with 9 points and 6 rebounds.  Rochester dominated the boards, 49-26.
