Otter Girls Open 8AAA Playoffs with Decisive Win

The Fergus Falls girls basketball team opened the Section 8AAA playoffs with a decisive 60-24 win over the Little Falls Flyers on Tuesday night at the Kennedy Secondary School Gymnasium.  The Otters went on a 17-0 run to take a 21-2 lead early in the game and led 44-13 at halftime.

Lily Pearson missed only two shots all night as she led the Otters with 21 points and a team high 6 rebounds.  Tori Ratz had a solid all-around game with 13 points, including 3 treys, 4 assists, 4 steals and 3 rebounds.  Sam Evavold (9 points, 3 assists), Ellie Colbeck (9 points, 3 assists) and Sabrina Fronning (4 points, 3 assists, 3 blocks, 2 steals) all contributed to the Otter victory.  Fergus Falls made 27-of-50 (54%) field goal attempts in the contest and had assists on 17 baskets.

 

Little Falls was led by senior guard Allie Steinmetz with 11 points.  Taylor Jordan added 7 points for the Flyers.

 

Fergus Falls (21-4) will face third-seeded Bemidji in the 8AAA semifinals on Saturday at 7:45pm at Moorhead High School.  The Lumberjacks posted a 72-58 win over Sauk Rapids-Rice in their quarterfinal round game.

 

Top-seeded Alexandria will play the first semifinal at 6:00pm Saturday against Sartell-St. Stephen.  The Sabres knocked off fourth-seeded Detroit Lakes 67-60 in their quarterfinal matchup in DL on Tuesday night.
