The Battle Lake girls basketball team held a slim 25-24 lead over the Hancock Owls on Monday night, however, the home team put together a solid second half and defeated the Battlers56-48.

“We put up a valiant effort tonight in Hancock but came up on the short end,” commented Battle Lake Head Coach David Marso.  “We played it close throughout the first half and took a one point lead into halftime.  Fifteen of the first half points came on 5 made three point shots.  In the middle of the second half, the Owls took an 8 point lead that stood for most of the half. A late run by our girls, cut the margin to only 4 but the Owls converted free throws late to seal the win.”

Allison Marso led Battle Lake with 20 points, including 5 three pointers.  Makenna Tysdal chipped in 10 points and Grace VanErp added 8.  The Owls were led by Haley Mattson and Carlee Hanson who scored 17 and 16 points, respectively.

“The girls played really hard tonight and have battled all season,” concluded Marso.  “I couldn't be more proud of each and every one of them.”

Hancock will play West Central Area on Thursday at 7:00pm in Barrett in the first round of the Section 6A Playoffs.
