Ortonville Girls Advance with 73-70 Shootout Win Over Ashby

Jaiden Conroy poured in 32 points, making 13-of-15 free throws, to lead the Ortonville girls basketball team to a 73-70 victory over the Ashby Arrows on Monday night on the Trojans home floor.

Ortonville made 19-of-25 free throws and Ashby connected on 8-of-12.  The two teams pulled down 38 rebounds apiece and both lit it up from 3-point range with Ashby hitting 10 3’s and Ortonville knocking down 8 treys.

 

Emily Ross had four of the Ortonville 3-pointers and finished with 14 points.

 

Ashby got 28 points and eight 3’s from Celi Nelson.  She also had 5 rebounds.  Courtney Koefod added 18 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds, scoring 13 second half points.  Josey Ness contributed 8 points and 11 rebounds, Kalista Aamot had 5 points and 9 boards and Amelia Barry ended up with 7 points and 5 assists.

 

Ortonville led 32-19 with 3:15 left in the first half, but Ashby cut the lead to 38-30 at halftime.  The game was tied at 60-60 with just under five minutes remaining in the game. The Trojans went on a 6-0 run and led the rest of the way.  Nelson made it a two point game when she hit her eighth 3-pointer with 5.5 seconds remaining, however, Conroy was fouled with 2.8 seconds left and made one of two foul shots to give Ortonville a 73-70 lead.  Koefod’s 40-footer at the buzzer bounced off the glass preserving the win for the Trojans.

 

Ortonville will face top-seeded Parkers Prairie at 7:00pm on Thursday night in Parkers Prairie.
