Pelican Rapids junior Matthew Ziebell has qualified for the Class A State Wrestling Tournment which will be held Thursday through Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Ziebell won the section 6A individual championship at 170 pounds on Saturday in Wadena.
Ziebell pinned Carter Rokes of Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale-Parkers Prairie in his quarterfinal match, won a tight 6-5 decision over Isaac Deal of Border West in the semifinals and then posted a 6-3 decision over Dylan Fischer of New York Mills in the title bout.
Pelican Rapids also placed Zane Brosowske fourth at 160. Sixth place went to Anthony Reese (120) and John Ziebell (182). Eighth place finishers for the Vikings were Oakley Carlson (106), Carter Johnson (126) and Max Dykhoff (152).
