The Fergus Falls girls hockey team battled defending champion and number two seed Breck in the Class A State Quarterfinals on Wednesday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.  The Mustangs scored an early goal and added a late goal to defeat the Otters 2-0.

Just over two minutes into the game the Mustangs took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Katherine Solohub, her fourth of the season.  She was assisted by Shae Messner and Ella Brophy.

After a scoreless second period the two teams battled through an intense third period with the outcome in doubt until Olivia Mobley notched her sixtieth point of the season by scoring her 29th goal, assisted by Carly Beniek, with just 1:13 remaining in regulation time.

Goalie Ally Frantzick stopped all 14 Fergus Falls shots, while senior netminder Jadyn McKeever came up big in the nets, stopping 31 of 33 shots by the Mustangs.

The Otters successfully killed all three power play opportunities for the Mustangs.  The Otters had just one power play in the game.

Fergus Falls (21-7) will now play in the consolation semifinals at 10:00am Thursday at the Tria Rink at Treasure Island Center in St. Paul, the practice facility for the Minnesota Wild.

The Otters will play Mankato East/Loyola in the consolation semifinals.  They lost to Mound/Westonka 4-2 in their quarterfinal contest on Wednesday.
