Alexandria held a 38-18 advantage in shots on goal Tuesday night as the Cardinals eliminated the Fergus Falls boys hockey team in the Section 6A quarterfinals with a 6-1 victory. Bailey Rosch stopped 17 shots in the Alexandria cage and Scott VanVoorhis came up with 32 saves.
The Cardinals led 1-0 after one period as Zach Wosepka found the back of the net with assists from Evan Lattimer and Alex Jost at 15:44.
In the second period Joe Westlund made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal at 4:37 and the Cardinals added a power play goal from Jack Westlund, assisted by Caleb Strong and Andrew Revering, and a shorthanded goal from Strong, assisted by Joe Westlund, increasing their lead to 4-0 after two periods of play.
Isaac Young scored the lone Otter goal with his brother Declan Young assisting at 1:14 of the third period. Eleven seconds later Alexandria countered with a goal by Ben Jenson from Derek Pesta and Shane Birkland. Wosepka closed out the scoring at 7:41 from Lattimer.
Fergus Falls finishes the season with a record of 8-15-2.
Alexandria (19-5) will face Sartell-St. Stephen in a semifinal contest at 7:00pm Saturday at the MAC in St. Cloud.
