Lady Knights Win in Brandon

The Lady Knights traveled to Brandon on Saturday afternoon to take on the Chargers. This Pheasant Conference Showdown did not disappoint as the lady Knights defeated B-E 55-50.

It was a battle all night between two teams trying to peak at the right moment. The game was back and forth for the first few minutes and the game was tied at 12 apiece. The Knights went on a 9 to 2 run and held a 21-14 lead. The half would close out with each team making a few baskets to be 28-22 in favor of the Knights. The second half began with the Knights going on a 10-4 run and opening up a lead. The Knights would continue to build a lead and it would reach 15 points. The Chargers would slowly cut the deficit. The lead was diminished to a 2 point lead with 1 minute to play. The Knights would hit some free throws and finish the game with a five point victory in Brandon.

The Lady Knights were led by Ella Van Kempen who had 17 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks and an assist. Lexi Bright had 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals, 4 assists and a block. Hailey Bennett put in 4 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist. Morgan Woodle added 6 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and an assist. Kaylyn Ulrichput in 4 points and grabbed a rebound. Brynn Fernholz dropped in 2 points and stole the ball 2 times. Kennedy Ulrich had 2 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Elizabeth Rustan had a point, 5 rebounds, a steal and a block. Teagan Nelson had an assist. Brooke Anderson had an assist. Kaitlyn Sanstead grabbed a rebound and a steal. Kaitlyn Hansen had 2 rebounds and an assist.

“Tonight we played strong throughout the first half and the beginning of the second half, and out effort never stopped,” said Head Coach Eric Schoenbauer. “We do need to work on finishing strong and not allowing a team back into the game, but the girls didn’t panic and hit big free-throws.”

West Central Area (16-6) has won six in a row.  They will host Henning on Tuesday night.

Brandon-Evansville (14-8) will play at Parkers Prairie on Thursday.
