The Ottertail Central Bulldog Wrestling team traveled to Wheaton on Friday night for the section 6A team championships. They would face their section and conference rival West Central Area Knights in the semifinals.

WCA was able to win the first match as Shad Swanson won by 12-4 major decision over Kolby Peters at 106. Laredo Bugbee (113) and Brien Poser (120) were able to follow that with consecutive pins for the Bulldogs to give them the 12-3 lead. However OTC would win just one of the next five weights, where at 132 Logan Schleske would earn a 11-4 decision over Reubens Swanson. Following the 152 pound match the Bulldogs found themselves trailing 16-15, and at 160 Zane Swanson was able to secure a 18-5 major decision over Bret Duncan to get the OTC back in front by a score of 19-16. The Knights would answer at 170 as Hunter Mickelsen won by 5-3 decision over Noah Schleske and tied the dual at 19-19. Alternating pins at 182 by Caden Johnson (OTC) and 195 by Wyatt Olson (WCA) would once again leave the match tied, this time at 25 each. At 220 pounds OTC’s Wyatt Thorson would win by a 7-2 decision to give the Bulldogs the 28-25 lead going into the final match, where Cian Buehler would clinch the dual and a trip to the section finals by pinning WCA’s Austin Mattson. OTC would win the dual by a score of 34-25.

In the Finals the Bulldogs would face another familiar opponent in Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale-Parkers Prairie. BHVPP advanced to the finals with a 64-12 win over Border West, and they were able to carry that momentum with them into the finals. Most of the matches were considered toss up matches as BHVPP was able to win the vast majority of them as they would beat the Bulldogs 45-12.

Although they were unable to win the team section title OTC will look to send individuals to state next Saturday in Wadena as they compete in the 6A individual section tournament.
