The Fergus Falls girls hockey team will play Alexandria on Thursday night in Willmar for the Section 6A championship. The Otters advanced to the finals with a 5-1 win over River Lakes on Tuesday night at the Community Ice Arena in Fergus Falls. The Otters put 35 shots on goal and goalie Jadyn McKeever stopped 24 of 25 River Lakes shots.

“I was very happy with the patience the girls had tonight,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Tim Lill. “They stuck to the play, played great defensively and wore River Lakes down. We also had to wait on the power play and make some adjustments, then the playmakers executed.”

Jade Zierden gave Fergus Falls a 1-0 lead at 15:38 of the first period with assists from Sophie Rausch and Ellie Andersen. Andersen made it 2-0 at 6:01 of the second with assists from Rausch and Gabby Brimhall. River Lakes cut the lead in half on a power play goal by Tyra Johnson from McKenzie Cremers and Aubrey Griffla. Rausch got the two goal lead back on the board at 12:51 of the second. Zierden and Chloe Nelson had assists on the goal.

Andersen scored on the power play at 2:19 of the third period with Hallie Sheridan assisting, giving Fergus Falls a 4-1 lead. Their final goal came from Rausch at 13:47. Sheridan again assisted on the Otter goal.

Fergus Falls and Alexandria will play for the Section 6A title on Thursday night at 7:00pm in Alexandria.
