The Ashby boys basketball team won for an eighth straight time when they handed Pelican Rapids a 61-45 loss on Monday night in Ashby. The Arrows are now 13-3 overall and 8-1 in Little Eight Conference play.

Jaden Norby recorded a double-double for the Arrows with 23 points and 16 rebounds.  He also dished out 4 assists.  Christian Norby just missed a double-double with 13 points and 9 boards.  Scott Johnson added 11 points and Dakota Ecker finished with 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.  Ashby held a 41-34 advantage on the boards and shot 42% (22-52) from the field.

"I thought our kids played really good defense in the second half," noted Ashby Head Coach John Holsten.  "They did a very good job of competing at the defensive end, holding a very good offensive team to just 19 points."

The leading scorer for Pelican Rapids was McHale Korf with 14 points.

"We struggled offensively tonight as we had too many turnovers in the first half and couldn't get going with our outside shooting in the second half," Pelican Rapids Head Coach John Gullingsrud said. "We have to give Ashby credit for our struggles offensively too as we didn't adjust well to their size and physicality. They also hit a big three at the halftime buzzer that put us down eight points and we just were not able to cut into that halftime deficit in the second half with our cold shooting."

Ashby will face Parkers Prairie in a battle for first place in the Little Eight Conference on Friday night in Evansville.

"Parkers has power inside with four guys who are physical and athletic, plus they have really quick guards," said Coach Holsten.  "They have the entire package and will present us with a challenging matchup."

Pelican Rapids (8-12) will play at Frazee on Tuesday and at Breckenridge on Friday.
