Lady Spartans Fall to Nationally Ranked Anoka-Ramsey

Charo Nickens scored 34 points on 15-of-21 shooting on Saturday afternoon to lead Anoka-Ramsey to a 79-62 win over the M State Lady Spartans in Fergus Falls. Mikayla Homola added 23 for the Golden Rams who shot 47% (32-68) from the field and made 10-of-12 (83.3%) from the free throw line.

 

Nickens also had 13 rebounds, including five on the offensive boards. Adaya Sandifer led the Rams with 7 assists, while adding 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 6 points. Homola contributed 5 boards, 4 assists and 5 steals. Chloe Vezies came off the bench to score 10 points.

M State shot 42% (23-55) from the floor and placed four players in double digits, led by 15 from Sydney HovlandTaylin Schleicher scored 12 and added 7 rebounds, Kassandra Algarate had 11 and Alexa Mortenson came through with 10 points off the bench. Megan Dreger had a solid floor game with 8 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Hovland added 8 rebounds to go along with 2 assists.

"This was a tough loss to a good team," stated M State Head Coach Janice Hendrickson.  "We had our chances to stay in the game, but struggled to make free throws and capitalize on our opportunities."

M State (9-13 overall, 3-6 MCAC South) will play at St. Cloud Community and Technical College next Saturday at 1:00pm. The lady Spartans have lost four of their last five games.
