Lady Knights Defeat Morris Area 66-60

The Morris Area Tigers and the West Central Area Lady Knights met at Cougar Stadium for a non-conference game on Saturday late morning. The Lady Knights started the game on a 10 - 0 run. The Tigers would match the intensity and the game was back and forth with the Tigers going on their own run, but the score at halftime was 35-32 with the Lady Knights clinging to the lead. The second half began back and forth until the Tigers took their first lead of the night 40-41. The Knights then went on a slight run to take the lead again. Down the stretch the Lady Knights made some big plays and hit their free-throws to conserve a victory. The final score was 66-60 in favor of the Lady Knights.

 

The Lady Knights were led by Hailey Bennett with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Ella Van Kempen scored 17 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, 6 blocks, 3 assists and 3 steal. Lexi Bright had 15 points, 4 rebounds, 6 steals, 2 assists and a block. Morgan Woodle put in 9 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and had a steal. Brynn Fernholz chipped in 4 points, grabbed 2 rebounds and stole a pass. Kennedy Ulrich had 2 points, 3 rebounds and a block. Kaitlyn Sanstead had 2 assists, 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Elizabeth Rustan had 5 rebounds and a steal. Teagan Nelson had a rebound. Kaitlyn Hansen had a steal. Kaylyn Ulrich had an assist.

“Tonight the girls came out ready to play and fed off of each other’s energy,” said Head Coach Eric Schoenbauer. “Each contribution from everyone is what made us successful tonight.” He concluded with this statement, “This is a great game for us to build off of going forward, but there are a few things we need to clean up.”
