Bugbee and Thorson Win Conference Wrestling Titles

Saturday the Ottertail Central Wrestling team participated in the Park Region Conference Tournament in Wadena. The Bulldogs would finish the day placing eleven out of fourteen wrestlers including two champions en route to a fourth place team finish behind champions Long Prairie-Grey Eagle-Browerville. 

 

Champions for the Bulldogs were Laredo Bugbee (113) and Wyatt Thorson(220). Bugbee had a bye before pinning Royalton-Upsala’s Will Gorecki in the semifinals. Bugbee then beat TJ Jasicki of United North Central in the finals by a score of 7-2. Thorson started his day with a bye as well before a first period pin of Tyler Eggert from Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale-Parkers Prairie. In the finals Thorson edged out West Central Area’s Devin Stone 5-1 to claim the 220 pound title. 

Three Bulldogs finished as runner ups; Max Naddy (145) was pinned by #10 ranked Ted Stacy of Long Prairie-Grey Eagle-Browerville, Zane Swanson (160) was pinned by #3 ranked Jackson Held of Royalton-Upsala, and Cian Buehlerlost a 3-0 decision to #1 ranked Craig Orlando of Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale-Parkers Prairie. 

Other place winners for the bulldogs; Matt Hendricks (138) was 3rd, Hayden Hart (126) and Chase Janu (182) were each 4th, while Logan Schleske (132) and Caden Johnson (170) finished 5th and Connor Tierney (195) was 6th. 

The Bulldogs will attempt to have weather postponed makeup matches this week before team section competition begins Tuesday February 12.
