Grant Inniger registered a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds on Thursday night, leading the Barnesville boys basketball team to a 62-55 victory over Pelican Rapids.

The Vikings led 33-30 at halftime and built an eight point lead early in the second half. Trailing 48-42, the Trojans went on a 9-0 run to take the lead. They finished the game on a 20-9 run to secure the win.

“We attacked the basket well and got to the line 32 times,” reported Barnesville Assistant Coach Tracy Hinsz. “The first half we were somewhat out of sync, but in the second half we had a lot better offensive movement and we played much better defensively.”

Three other Trojans were in double figures, with Adam Tonsfeldt scoring 13, Kellen Hinsz 12 and Hunter Zenzen 10.  Zenzen also had 7 rebounds and 2 assists, Tonsfeldt distributed 5 assists, had 2 steals and pulled down 5 rebounds, and Jason Henrickson added 5 boards to go along with 4 points.  The Trojans made just 34% (19-55) of their field goal attempts in the game.

Logan Fahje led the Vikings with 21 points and McHale Korf had 11.  Pelican Rapids shot 43% (24-55) for the night.

“We were just unable to finish the game tonight as we had a hard time executing and making good decisions down the stretch on both ends,” Pelican Rapids Head Coach John Gullingsrud stated. “We had an eight point lead early in the second half, but turnovers and missed shots late in the game really were our downfall.”

“I have great respect for Coach Gullingsrud and what he does with his team,” added Coach Hinsz. “They are so fundamentally sound.”

Barnesville is now 9-5 overall and 3-3 in Heart O’ Lakes Conference play. They will host Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal on Tuesday night.

Pelican Rapids (5-10) will play at Wadena on Friday night.
