Tuesday, January 15, the Fergus Falls eighth grade boys basketball team hosted Detroit Lakes for two games.

“In the A Game, we struggled a little bit in the first half with first game jitters,” reported Head Coach Andrew Gunther.  “We were down seven at halftime.  We played better in the second half. The game came down to the wire and we escaped with a one point victory, 35 to 34.”

Fergus Falls had seven different scorers in the game, led by Jaydon Manteufel with 11 points, and Josh Sternberg and Eli Draeger with 6 points each.

“In the B Game, we played as a team,” said Gunther. “We were in control the whole game winning by ten points, 29 to 19.”

Leading scorers were Mark Dahl with 9 points, Marcus Sewell with 8 points, and James Hajicek with 6 points.

Thursday, January 24, the Otters traveled to Breckenridge for one game.  “We had our work cut out for us, made or missed basket they pushed the ball up every time,” said Coach Gunther.  “We kept it fairly close in the first half but turned the ball over too many times and gave up too many easy baskets.  I was very pleased with scoring 51 points, 37 in the first half, but we can't win games giving up 70.  We had seven different scorers.  Once again our three big scorers were Josh Sternberg with 14 points, Eli Draeger with 12 points, and Jaydon Manteufel with 9 points.”
