The West Central Area Knights hosted the state's #10 ranked Ortonville Trojans and lost 81-59 on Friday night in Barrett.  With the Knights trailing 44-54, the Trojans capitalized on five Knight turnovers in seven possessions to put the game out of reach.

Knight Coach Kraig Hunter said, "Our coaching staff loves our team and our players.  They competed and actually did many things well.  The biggest game goal we had was winning the rebounding battle and we did that 40-38.  The score is not indicative of how we played.  In the half court, the teams were very evenly matched.  Unfortunately we were just not strong with the ball vs a very physical team and we turned the ball over 19 times which mostly all went for layups for them.  We also did not have one of our better shooting games, despite many open looks. Our players already feel that if we get stronger and have a normal shooting night, that we will be fine.  Playing teams like Ortonville is always a learning experience, and we are confident we will learn and get better."

The Knights only hit 20-61 from the field for 32% and 5-21 threes.  Ortonville made 29-70 shots for 41%.  "Not a terrible night for us defensively when you consider 10 or 11 of those shots were fastbreak layups off of our turnovers," said Hunter.  The Trojans hit 8-22 threes.

The Knights were 14-21 from the free throw line and the Trojans were 15-21.

Leaders for the Knights were Jack Van Kempen with 17 points and 12 rebounds; Tate Christenson had 7 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists; Gage Staples had 7 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocked shots; Gavin Paulson had 7 points and 5 rebounds; Jacob Bright 6 points and 2 assists, Blake Koloski 6 points and took 2 charges; Grant Beuckens 5 points and 4 assists; and Teigen Moritz 4 points and 5 rebounds.

The Trojans placed four players in double figures led by Caden Wellnitz with 21 points, Devonte Edwards 15, Tyson Powell 14, and Mitchell Meyer 10.
