The Prairie’s Edge Dental 10U A team traveled North to Thief River Falls, where they participated in the Prowlers’ Meltdown tournament.

First up, the Otters hit the ice at the Old Arena, facing off against Bismarck. The Capitals scored twice in each of the first two periods for a strong lead. Then, in the third period, Rachel DeBrito avoided the shutout with assists from Maddison Brimhall and Evelyn Wedll. Otter goalie Olivia Jurgens turned away 26 of 30 shots faced.

Later on Saturday, the Otters took on the home team of Thief River. This time, the A’s made quick work of the competition, scoring 6 unanswered goals in the first period alone. Scoring for the Otters were Brook Zierden (4), DeBrito (4), Jurgens, Averie TonnesonMaggie GreenagelShay Katzenmeyer, Evelyn Wedll, Aubree Nelson & Lydia Johnson. Assists went to DeBrito (2), Tonneson (2), Katzenmeyer (2), Greenagel, Katie Bergren, Nelson, Zierden, Wedll & Jurgens. Getting her first start in goal, Brimhall was nearly perfect, with the only Prowler goal taking place with 4 minutes remaining.

After some statistical analysis, the coaches knew the Otters would need to shut out first-ranked West Fargo to proceed to the Championship game.

Early on Sunday, the Otters and the Stampede faced off at the Ralph Engelstad Arena. In an extremely entertaining matchup, the Otters hit the scoreboard first with a Tonneson goal fed by Nelson & Johnson. After a scoreless second period, Nelson added an insurance goal with an assist from Katzenmeyer. But, at the 6 minute mark of the third period, West Fargo scored to finalize the Otters’ third-place seeding. Fergus would hold onto the win, with goalie OJ stopping 12 of 13 shots.

In the third place matchup, the Otters would again meet up with TRF. They again lit up the scoreboard early, and achieved a milestone as well. As Bergren scored first for the Otters, all 11 teammates scored at least one goal during the 4-game weekend. Lighting the lamp in the consolation game were Brimhall (2), Wedll (2), Zierden (2), Bergren, Jurgens, Greenagel, Nelson, DeBrito & Johnson. Adding assists were Johnson (4), Brimhall (2), Tonneson, Jurgens, Greenagel, Bergren & DeBrito. With another outstanding achievement, Greenagel & DeBrito traded turns in the crease and also scored a goal in the same game.

The 10U A Otters return to the road this weekend, where they will take place in two rematch games against Moorhead & West Fargo.
