Lady Knights Defeat Comet Girls

The Hillcrest Comets traveled to Barrett to take on the West Central Area Lady Knights on Thursday in a conference showdown. The Lady Knights fell behind 4-0 to the Comets and then went on a 15-0 run. The Lady Knights kept things rolling the rest of the half and led 42-11. The Lady Knights continued to roll and finished the game with 68 points and only allowing 24 to the Comets. 

The Lady Knights were led by Ella Van Kempen with 17 points, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks, 3 assists and a steal. Kennedy Ulrich scored 12 points with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Lexi Bright finished with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Hailey Bennett scored 7 points to go along with 4 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist. Brynn Fernholz chipped in 7 points, 6 steals, an assist and a steal. Kaitlyn Hansen dropped in 5 points, grabbed 2 rebounds and stole the ball once. Morgan Woodle finished with 4 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. Kaitlyn Sansteadhad 2 points, 4 steals and 2 rebounds. Ireland Winter had 2 points. Teagan Nelsonhad a rebound, an assist and a steal. Elizabeth Rustan had 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Brooke Anderson had a rebound and 2 assists. Kaylyn Ulrich finished with a rebound and an assist.

“We played together throughout the night as a team and pushed the ball up the floor fairly effectively,” Coach Eric Schoenbauer commented. He then finished with these thoughts, “We are starting to believe in ourselves and each other which makes it fun to take the floor.” 

Leaders for Hillcrest were Olivia Foss (12 points), Mackenzie Foss (5 points), Anna Rasmussen (4 points), Audra Ewan (2 points, 7 rebounds), Cassy Twedt (8 rebounds), Molly McGuire (6 rebounds) and Elise Wutka (1 point). 

“West Central played tough, aggressive defense and we struggled to knock down shots,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark. “We need to do a better job of taking care of the ball.”
