The West Central Area Knights travelled to Long Prairie for a Saturday afternoon game and built a 40-20 halftime lead enroute to a convincing 70-49 victory.

The game was close early before the Knights started to pull away leading 33-14.  The Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Thunder hit back to back threes to make it 33-20 and then the Knights ended the half on a 7-0 run to lead 40-20.

"That was good poise and composure by our guys at the end of the half.  Instead of letting them stay in the game, that little run kind of deflated them," said Knight Coach Kraig Hunter

The story of the game was the Knights rebounding dominance.  The Knights held a substantial 45-19 edge on the boards including 25 offensive rebounds. Hunter said, "We have been preaching rebounding now for a while and we knew versus their zone, we would have opportunities and our guys just relentlessly kept pounding the glass. It was fun to watch."

Most of the other statistical categories were fairly even.  The Knights shot 44% (29-65) and the Thunder shot 43% (18-42).  Both teams shot 40% on threes (6-15 WCA) and (8-20 LPGE).  The Knights made 6-10 free throws and the Thunder 5-9.  Turnovers were 9 for WCA and 12 for LPGE.

Leaders for the Knights were Jack VanKempen with 24 points, 14 rebounds, 5 steals, 4 blocked shots, and 3 assists; Gage Staples had 12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 blocked shot; Tate Christenson had 11 points and 2 rebounds; Gavin Paulson 10 points and 5 rebound; Teigen Moritz 6 points and 4 rebounds; Grant Beuckens 3 points, 9 assists, and 5 rebounds; Jake Bright 2 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals; Kyle Schill 2 points.  Blake Koloski did not score but was a big difference in the game with 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, took a charge, and had no turnovers.

Hunter said, "I would point to our bench of Blake Koloski, Tate Christenson, and Gavin Paulson in giving us that extra boost again.  Blake made several big plays, Tate added 11 points again, and Gavin sparked us with his effort plays again resulting in 10 points and 5 rebounds.   I also think we are starting to get many more easy baskets from Grant Beuckens playmaking.  He is a good scorer but know he is seeing the floor better and better getting 9 assists tonight and that becomes contagious as many others had some nice unselfish passes again."

Scoring for the Thunder were Gabe Abraham with 16 points, Blake Fossland 14, Lance Larson 8, Tony Mena 5, Ian Langford 4 and Matt Zeipoldt 2.
