The Battle Lake girls basketball team recorded a 57-49 Little Eight Conference victory over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy on Friday night in Battle Lake.

“We did a nice job of getting out to an early lead that fluctuated around the 10 point margin, but the Comets were able to cut the lead to 29-23 by half,” reported Battle Lake Head Coach David Marso. “In the second half we increased the lead to 15 midway through, but the Comets made a late run and we finished with the 8 point win.”

For Battle Lake, freshman Grace VanErp led the scoring with 18 points, 13 of which came in the second half.  Makenna Tysdal added 13 points and Allison Marso had 12.

Olivia Foss had a tremendous second half for the Comets, scoring 22 of her game high 31 points in the period.  Mackenzie Foss contributed 12 points and 5 steals to the Hillcrest cause, while Cassy Twedt added 4 points and 5 rebounds and Molly McGuire had 2 points and 5 boards.

“Battle Lake out-hustled and out-rebounded us the entire game,” commented Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark. “We need to do a better job of being disciplined defensively. Olivia Foss led us on offense and did a great job attacking the basket.”
