The Battle Lake boys basketball team held a 24-18 halftime lead on Friday night in their game against Hancock, however, the Owls finished strong and recorded a 51-39 victory over the Battlers.

Brennan Amundson and Riley Leabo scored 15 and 11 points, respectively, to lead Battle Lake.

“We played such a strong first half and for the second straight night we played so well together,” commented Head Coach CJ Peeters. “Both nights we took ourselves out of the games, but tonight we weren’t so fortunate to win.  We are really showing we can play at a high level at times. If we can play a complete game and continue to build we will be tough, but until them it’s going to be a little bit of a rollercoaster with up and down games. Hancock is a really nice team and they play well together. They fought through some early adversity and wanted it more.”

Hancock was led by Bennett Nienhaus with 16 points.

Battle Lake (2-5) will travel to Fergus Falls for a Little Eight Conference matchup with Hillcrest on Thursday night.
