The Brandon-Evansville Chargers held off a second half rally by Battle Lake on Tuesday night to record a 50-42 victory in high school girls basketball on the Chargers home floor.

“We started the game strong and were able to build a twenty point lead,” said Head Coach Sam Lange. “Once again we had great defense in the first half and were able to get the ball inside to score early.”

Sara Jacobson (9 points, 2 steals), Mikenna Pattrin (8 points, 6 rebounds), Kerryn Lund (7 points) and Megan Lauthen (6 points) led Brandon-Evansville.

The Chargers made 39% (21-53) of their field goal attempts.

The win was the sixth in a row for the Chargers who will host New York Mills on Friday.

Halie Johnson led Battle Lake with 9 points.  Makenna Tysdal and Tessa Kortlever contributed six points each.

"We got off to a real slow start tonight and just couldn't get our offense started," said Battle Lake Head Coach David Marso.  "Credit the Chargers for bringing the defensive pressure, holding us to only eleven points in the first half.  In the second half we were able to get a little more offense going and cleaned up a few things on defense.  The inside presence for the Chargers was just too much for us."

Battle Lake (1-5) is off until Friday, December 28 when they will face Frazee on the first day of the Pelican Rapids Holiday Classic.
