Two weeks ago the Fergus Falls girls hockey team won a thrilling 1-0 contest over Alexandria with a power play goal with just over a minute remaining in regulation time. On Tuesday night in Alexandria the Cardinals earned a 3-2 overtime victory when they notched a power play goal at 6:45 of the extra period.
Following a scoreless first period the Cardinals got on the board just twenty-five seconds into the second period when McKenna Ellingson scored a shorthanded goal from Anna Doherty and Makenna Aure. The Otters pulled even at 11:11 of the period when Sophie Rausch found the back of the net from Chloe Nelson and Ellie Andersen.
Andersen scored from Raush at 6:09 of the third period to give the Otters a 2-1 lead, however, the Cardinals answered at 7:48 when Doherty converted on the power play with Ellingson and Mayson Toft assisting.
Marki Oberg scored the game winner from Kaci Trosvig to even the season series at a game apiece.
Jadyn McKeever kept it close by making 36 saves as the Cardinals enjoyed a 39-14 shot advantage on the night.
"The girls played hard tonight, Alex played a little harder," stated Fergus Falls Head Coach Tim Lill. "They beat us to loose pucks and won more board battles. We learned a lot about ourselves and will refocus in practice. As always, very proud of this team."
Fergus Falls (8-4) will close their pre-Christmas schedule with a home game against Prairie Centre on Thursday night.
