The West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville grapplers have wrapped up week two of the 2018 season. Competition began on Tuesday, December 11 as the team traveled to Osakis to take on the Silverstreaks for an inter Park Region Conference dual.

Following the 138 lb. match the dual was knotted up at 18 points apiece. WCAABE's Jr. Kaleb Getz gave the Knights their first lead of the evening with a fall at 145 lbs. His match was followed up by a pair of pins by So. Kade Olson and Sr. Bryce Lien stretching the Knights lead to 36-18. By the end of the dual WCAABE poured on three more scores and ripped open the match on what was a tight contest to a 54-24 drubbing.

About Tuesday Head Coach Brandon Gruchow stated, “This was a good confidence booster before heading into the Big Bear Tournament. I appreciated the fact that our wrestlers were trying the things that we have been working on in practice. That's always refreshing to see as a coach.”

Hunter Mickelsen gathered his 50th career victory at Big Bear as he pinned Mathew Foster with a :28 fall.

Regarding his teams efforts at Cass Lake Coach Gruchow said, “After the first day of competition I felt like we were sitting in a good spot.  The guys pushed hard in their matches.  We made little mistakes throughout the day that cost us some matches and nine of our guys were out by the end.  The second day was a tough one on us as we lost three guys in the "blood round."  Our two captains prevailed through the tough competition and both found spots on the podium.  Overall, I am happy with our finish and look forward to get back in the room and keep tweaking the small things that will hopefully pay off big.”
