West Central Area Girls Win at Hancock

On Thursday night the West Central Area Girls’ Basketball team traveled to Hancock in a Pheasant Conference matchup. The game had the Lady Knights jump out to a 13-2 lead and then went back and forth for most of the first half. The Lady Knights went on a slight run to go up 40-25 at halftime. The second half began and the Lady Knights increased their lead slightly, but the Owls cut into it again. With 10 minutes to play the Lady Knights went on an 8-0 run and were up by 20. This led to a final score of 74-48 in favor of the Lady Knights. 

“Tonight the Lady Knights had a balanced attack from the whole team,” said Head Coach Eric Schoenbauer

Ella Van Kempen had 17 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals, 4 assists and 2 blocks, Lexi Bright had 16 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals and a block, Kaitlyn Hansen had 12 points, 2 assists and a rebound, Hailey Bennett scored 11 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and an assist, Kennedy Ulrich had 4 points, 4 rebounds and a steal, Kaitlyn Sanstead had 3 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists, Teagan Nelson scored 3 points, with 2 rebounds and 2 assists, Morgan Woodle had 2 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, Brynn Fernholz had 2 points, 3 steals, 2 rebounds and an assist, Kaylyn Ulrich scored 2 points on the night, Elizabeth Rustan chipped in 2 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist and Brooke Anderson had an assist.

“We started the game out great and then played a great second half,” noted Schoenbauer. “The Owls battled all night and put pressure on us, and the first half was evidence of it. Our second half we settled into a shooting groove and made big plays down the stretch.” 

The lady Knights (3-3) will play at Breckenridge Friday night.
