The Rothsay boys basketball team hosted the reigning Section 6A champions on Saturday afternoon and lost to Mahnomen-Waubun by the score of 70-48.

The Thunderbirds controlled the game and tempo for most of the first half, while going into halftime with a 39-19 lead. Rothsay cut the lead to eight points with nine minutes to play in the second half but couldn’t sustain the momentum.

“We came out a little sluggish and Mahnomen-Waubun dictated the tempo,” commented Rothsay Head Coach Taylor Fuhs. “I was happy how we came out in the second half and really didn’t back down. We just didn’t have enough in the tank to sustain it.”

The Tigers were led by Ethan Curtis with 13 points. Tanner Heier contributed 7 points and 6 assists.

Rothsay will host Parkers Prairie in a Little Eight Conference battle on Monday night in the Bill Rose Gymnasium.
