Lady Knights Beat CGB in Conference Opener

Thursday night the West Central Area Lady Knights hosted the Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley Wolverines in the opening conference game for the lady Knights. 

The game saw the Lady Knights jump out to a 9-2 lead, and they lead ballooned quickly to an 18 point lead. The Wolverines dug in and battled back. The halftime score was 39-28. The Lady Knights never let the Wolverines get closer than an 8 point cushion, but the Wolverines would not allow the Knights to expand the lead over 16 again. It was a battle until the final buzzer that ended with the Lady Knights ahead 63-49. 

The Knights were led by Ella Van Kempen with 24 points, 10 rebounds, 6 steals, 2 blocks and an assist. Lexi Bright scored 13 points, with 5 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 blocks and 3 assists. Hailey Bennett put in 8 points, with 2 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals. Kaitlyn Hansen chipped in 6 points. Elizabeth Rustan added 6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, a block and an assist. Morgan Woodle had 2 points, 5 rebounds, and a block. Brynn Fernholz scored 2 points, while getting 2 steals, a block and an assist. Kennedy Ulrich had 2 points on the night. Kaylyn Ulrich added 2 assists. Teagan Nelson, Brooke Anderson, and Ireland Winter did not make it into the scorers column, but they all played an integral part of the team’s success. 

“Tonight we did a great job coming out of the gates ready to attack. The girls kept pressure on the Wolverines from the opening tip,” stated Coach Eric Schoenbauer. “We knew this was going to be a challenging game and the girls played very aggressive and it helped us. We do need to do a better job of finishing possessions, but it was a good effort tonight.”

The Knights will play Parkers Prairie on Tuesday at 7:30pm.
