Mady Eklund was in goal on Tuesday night as the Fergus Falls girls hockey team recorded a 1-0 victory over the Alexandria Cardinals in a battle of two of the top teams in Section 6A.

A power play goal by Ellie Andersen, assisted by Sophie Rausch, with 1:15 left in regulation time was the only goal scored in the contest.

“This was a total team effort,” reported Fergus Falls Head Coach Tim Lill. “It took all three lines, five defensemen and the goalie to win this one. Rausch dissected their defensive scheme on the power play to find Ellie at the back door and Andersen slammed it in the net. Game, set, match. Eklund was brilliant and carried us through the second so we could make a third period adjustment. Thanks to Minnesota Motor Company for providing an electric atmosphere. The barn was hopping!”

The Otters are now 5-2 and will host St. Cloud on Thursday night.
