The Perham Yellowjackets lost only once in thirty games last year, however, that loss came in the Section 8AA championship game to the Breckenridge Cowboys, putting an abrupt end to one of the greatest seasons in Perham boys basketball history. Head Coach Dave Cresap opens his 34th year at the helm with two returning starters and six experienced seniors leading his team.

“I am very optimistic about this season, but we need to replace three very good players,” said Cresap.

Gone are Logan Richter (Football – U of M), Ben Winkels (Basketball – Ridgewater CC) and Martin LaFond (Basketball – M State – Fergus Falls).

Jenson Beachy (G) and Josh Jeziorski (F) are returning starters from last year and Carter Cresap (G) started a few games for the Yellowjackets. Other seniors returning are Anthony Reese (G), Dawson Stevens (C) and John LaFond (F).

“We have a very good shooting team and we should be a very good defensive team,” stated Cresap. We are looking to be more of a transition team and our rebounding needs to improve. It’s also important for us to keep sharing the ball.”

Juniors looking for varsity court time are Charlie Rasmussen (G), Landon Stevens (F), Carter Mulcahy (G), Gunnar Anderson (G), Ryan Murphy (C), Carter Aakre (F) and Jordan Muench (G).

Cresap, who will be assisted by Brian Schwantz (JV), Brent Hanson (C Squad), Tim Schmitz and Grant Dierkhising, says Breckenridge and Hawley will present the biggest challenge in both the Heart O’ Lakes Conference and Section 8AA, with Barnesville and DGF in the mix in both conference and section competition. East Grand Forks and Osakis will also be tough section opponents.
