The Fergus Falls wrestling team returns some varsity experience to the mats, including All-Conference performers Dustin Portales (JR, 26-5, Section champ) and Kaden Hartwell (SO, 31-13, 4th in Section).  Senior Cole Fronning (13-19) took sixth in his weight class in the Section 8AA meet.

Seniors Justin Boyd (13-16) Eli Sorum and Alex Hastings, junior Jay Rodriguez, sophomores Ethan Krause (11-12) and Caden Olsen, freshmen Lucas OliphantJonah Sorum and Sam Sorum, and eighth-graders Delvin RobertsJacob Widness and Lance Graff are other top returners for the Otters.  Boyd, Eli Sorum and Fronning will serve as team captains.

"We have lots of experience in this years lineup," said head coach Adam Schlepp, now in his seventh season.  "Several second year varsity wrestlers are looking to turn the corner this year.  We will look to our wins leaders, senior captains and varsity experience as being things that will lead us to success this season.  We should be able to secure more wins this season that last.  We also look forward to working with this group as they are starting to develop some wrestling culture, and that is extremely fun to be a part of."

Assisting Coach Schlepp are Perry Holm, who has 45-plus years of coaching experience, Gus Makovsky (4 years), Joe Barfknecht (15 seasons of coaching experience), and newcomers Andrew Goracke and Matt Hintz.

"Our coaching staff is well experienced, prepared and excited to take on the upcoming season," said Schlepp.  "Our numbers are moving in the right direction, but we always want to improve in this area."

Schlepp says Perham, Detroit Lakes, DGF and Pierz are the top teams in Section 8AA, while Willmar is the team to beat in the Central Lakes Conference.
