The Breckenridge boys basketball team has won back-to-back Section 8AA championships and have won the Section title three of the last four years. The last two seasons they set the school records with 26 wins each season. Last year they won a state tournament game for the first time in 39 years. With 11 seniors, including future NDSU player Noah Christensen returning, the cupboard is far from bare!

“Noah was the Conference MVP last year and will rewrite most of the records in Cowboy basketball history before he is don,” commented Head Coach Arly Ohm. “I believe our depth will be our strength as it allows us to play a ‘chaotic style’ that is fun to play and watch with pressure defense and transition offense! The challenge facing our players is this … will they ‘buy into’ roles and put the Team ahead of themselves? Our participation numbers are up and day to day competition throughout the entire program should help us improve throughout the season.”

Hunter Feigum (Sr, F) is the other returning starter from last year and sixth-manCaden McGough (Sr, G/F) also returns. Another returning letter winner, Cooper Yaggie (So, G) broke his collarbone at the end of the football season and will be out until mid-January. Max Johnson (Sr, PG) who served as back-up point guard last season is also back.

Other players in the varsity mix are seniors Sam Bakken (G/F), Jacob Marsh(G/F), Justin Marsh (F), Charlie Boldingh (F), Michael Randall (G), Jeremy Stack (F) and Carter Fredericksen (C), and junior Tyson Piechowski (F).

“We are excited about our schedule,” continued Ohm. “We are playing five teams that made it to the state tournament last year, along with the traditional powers in our conference and section who are on our schedule. We also are playing December 28 and 29 in the prestigious Hoops City Classic at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. That’s something we are really looking forward to. Perham and Hawley are the teams at the top of the HOL and I believe East Grand Forks and Osakis will challenge Perham, Hawley and us in Section 8AA. This will definitely be a strong year in Section 8AA and I think any of these teams could win the title.”

Ohm will be assisted by Dick CordesDerek GrahnJordan Christensen and Nate LorenzDan Dahlgren who was also an assistant in the program has retired from coaching.
