Fifth-Ranked Fairmont Eliminates Perham in AAA Semifinals

The Perham Yellowjackets saw their six game winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon at US Bank Stadium when they lost a 29-14 decision to fifth-ranked Fairmont in the Class AAA State Semifinals. Perham ends their season with a final record of nine wins and three losses. 

 

Quarterback Jenson Beachy was sacked six times for 39 yards in losses on the day as Fairmont held Perham to 286 yards of offense (147 rushing, 139 passing). Perham lost two fumbles and had an interception returned for a touchdown against them. 

Ty Moser found the end zone first, scoring on a three-yard run to cap an 11-play, 69 yard drive with 8:27 to play in the first quarter, spotting Perham a 6-0 lead. Fairmont tied the game with 4:25 left in the quarter on a 32 yard pass play from Garrett Myren to Dustin Schultz, and then added a two-point conversion pass from Myren to Tony Nuss to take an 8-6 lead. That started a run of 29 straight points for the Cardinals. 

Fairmont led 15-6 at halftime after Schultz hauled in an 11 yard TD pass from Myren and Jack Hestad added the extra point kick with 10:43 left in the half. 

A pair of third quarter TD’s increased their lead to 29-6 as Jordan Wolter broke free for a 74 yard touchdown run with 6:56 left in the quarter and Daniel Reiterwent 39 yards with an interception with 2:40 on the clock. Hestad added PAT kicks after each score. 

Perham scored their final points with 8:03 to play in the fourth quarter when Colton Hackel scored on a one yard run and then caught a two-point pass from Beachy. 

Zach Peterson led Perham with 70 rushing yards on 9 carries and Beachy had 59 yards on 23 attempts. Beachy completed 17-of-26 passes for 112 yards. Leading receivers were Moser (5 catches, 37 yards) and Hackel (5 catches, 29 yards).

Fairmont running back Jordan Wolter had 159 yards on 22 carries and Myren completed 10-of-15 passes for 171 yards. Schultz caught 5 passes for 83 yards to lead the receivers. 

Defensive leaders for Perham were Dylan Fudge (6.5 tackles, 1 fumble recovery), Finn Diggins (4.5 tackles, 1.5 sacks), Dawson Stevens (2 tackles, 1 sack), Dawson Kellogg (5.5 tackles, 0.5 sacks) and Peterson (7 tackles). 

Fairmont (11-1) will face Rochester Lourdes (13-0) for the AAA state title on Saturday, November 24 at 1:00pm at US Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis.
