Mady Eklund stopped all sixteen shots she faced on Friday night as the Fergus Falls girls hockey team recorded an 8-0 victory over Hutchinson. The Otters had 21 shots on goal and senior Sophie Rausch tied the all-time assist record with three more helpers.

Rausch and Ellie Anderson both assisted on first period goals by Piper Andrewsand Hallie Sheridan to stake the Otters to a 2-0 lead after one.

Rausch scored from Andrews at 8:54 of the second period and Vivian Karsniamade it 4-0 on a goal setup by Jade Zierden and Amy Johnson. The Otters increased their lead to 5-0 when Anderson scored from Rausch and Zierden at 16:05 of the second.

In the third period, Liz Mattson scored from Maddie Hulter and Zierden at 6:05, Sheridan scored her second of the night from Vivian Karsnia and Johnson at 6:13, and Hulter netted a goal from Goepferd with twenty seconds left in the contest.

“All three lines decided to compete and win the puck races,” said Head Coach Tim Lill. “Our forecheck choked their breakout and wore them down. Eklund was big early in the game and squashed some opportunities that really decided how tonight was going to go. She deserved the shutty.”

The Otters have a 1:00pm face-off Saturday against South St. Paul.
