With a convincing 34-20 win over Minneapolis North on Friday at US Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis, the Barnesville Trojans are advancing to the Class 2A State Championship Football game against defending champion Caledonia.  The Trojans will play for the title at 1:00pm, Friday, November 23 back at US Bank.

Preston Snobl returned the opening kick-off to the Minneapolis North 38 yard line and seven plays later he scored the first touchdown of the day on a six yard run.  Snobl also added the two-point conversion to give Barnesville an 8-0 lead at 8:32 of the first quarter.  Minneapolis North tried to convert a fourth-down-and-three play but fumbled the ball.  Adrian O'Brien recovered the ball for the Trojans at the Polars 28 yard line.  Nick Detloff then capped a five play scoring drive with an 8 yard TD run.  Adam Tonsfeldt made it 16-0 when he carried in the two-point conversion.

Minneapolis North started a drive at their own 29 and were stopped at downs at the Barnesville 7 yard line early in the second quarter.  The Trojans drove 93 yards in seven plays and Chase Brenner scored on a two yard run to increase their lead to 22-0 with 8:43 left in the half.  Joey Mark then recovered a Minneapolis North fumble near midfield, leading to a second Brenner TD run of two yards and a 28-0 lead for the Trojans with 3:43 to play in the first half.

Minneapolis North ended the first half on a positive note when Nasir El-Aminbroke loose for a 48 yard touchdown off a pass from Zach Yeager with just 1:46 to play until halftime.  A Yeager pass to Eli Campbell added the two-point conversion and the halftime score read Barnesville 28, Minneapolis North 8.

The Polars received the second half kick-off and went 75 yards in nine plays, scoring on a 45 yard pass from Yeager to El-Amin to cut the Barnesville lead to 28-14.  The Trojans, however, answered with a lengthy scoring drive that went 65 yards in eleven plays and ate up over six minutes on the clock.  Hunter Anderson scored on a one yard run and the Trojans led 34-14.

The final TD of the day was scored by Minneapolis North running back Kehyan Porter from 2 yards out with 7:45 left in the game.

The Barnesville running attack was unstoppable as they compiled 366 yards and ran for 21 first downs.  Barnesville had possession of the ball for over 30 minutes.  They were led on the ground by Tonsfeldt (12 carries, 104 yards), Anderson (15 carries, 97 yards) and Detloff (16 carries, 101 yards).

Minneapolis North ran for 147 yards and added 248 yards through the air, giving them 395 yards of total offense.  They had 18 first downs on the day. Yeager completed 20-of-34 passes and was picked off once by Tonsfeldt.  Leading receivers were El-Amin (10 catches, 139 yards) and Omar Brown (6 catches, 57 yards).  Yeager ran for 60 yards on 8 carries and Porter rushed for 52 yards on 13 attempts.

Minneapolis North ends their season at 12-1.  Barnesville will take an 11-2 record up against unbeaten, top-ranked Caledonia on Friday.

"The kids played a great game," acknowledged Barnesville Head Coach Bryan Strand.  "We gotup on them and stunned them a bit.  I felt they got tired during the game and we didn't get as tired.  They seemed to have real issues finding the ball.  We know Caledonia is the real deal.  They are very aggressive and quick and have another great quarterback.  They are very well coached.  We will have to sustain drives and the defense will have to be as big as they were this last game.  We need to keep the score down to give us a chance.  I am very proud of the boys and the coaches for getting to this point.  Everyone has worked extremely hard and put in countless hours to be here.  We need a great week of prep and we will be ready come Friday."
