As Eric Schoenbauer enters his fifth year as head coach, the West Central Area girls basketball team returns some experience and depth from their 19-8 team of a year ago.

"As a coach, the more I get into it the less I know until the action starts happening,” says Schoenbauer. “I know one thing and that is that this should be a fun season with the group of girls we have on our roster.”

Top returners are seniors Ella Van Kempen (C/F), Morgan Woodle (F) and Kaitlyn Sanstead (G/F), junior Hailey Bennet (G/F) and freshmen Lexi Bright(G/F) and Kaitlyn Hansen (G/F). Other players vying for varsity court time are juniors Teagan Nelson (G/F) and Kaylyn Ulrich (G/F), sophomores Brynn Fernholz (G/F) and Brooke Anderson (G/F), and freshmen Lizzie Rustan(G/F/C) and Kennedy Ulrich (F/C).

Naomi MoerkeEli Dotts and Todd Bright will assist Schoenbauer.

“I would say CGB and Wheaton will be our top competitors for the Pheasant Conference title, while Ada-Borup/Norman County West is definitely the team to beat in Section 6A,” said Schoenbauer. “They have represented our section in the state tournament a lot in recent years.”
